Colossians 3:12-15

12 Since God chose you to be the holy people whom he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. 13 You must make allowance for each other’s faults and forgive the person who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. 14 And the most important piece of clothing you must wear is love. Love is what binds us all together in perfect harmony. 15 And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are all called to live in peace. And always be thankful.

Paul tells us the attributes of being a child of God are something we pick up and place on ourselves. Like we would pick up a coat and cover ourselves, we are to put on Christ. It is not in our nature to be loving and forgiving, we must make a decision to do so. It is not what we always want to do. Only with Christ in our hearts can we truly be holy people. To be holy we must forgive those who have sinned against us. The key to forgiveness is to remember how much God has forgiven you. Realizing God’s infinite love and forgiveness can help us love and forgive others. Put on the garment of love and extend to others what Christ has so freely given to you. Then the peace that comes from Christ alone will rule in your heart and mind!
