James 4:1-6
1 What is causing the quarrels and fights among you? Isn’t it the whole army of evil desires at war within you? 2 You want what you don’t have, so you scheme and kill to get it. You are jealous for what others have and you can’t possess it so you fight and quarrel to take it away from them. And yet the reason you don’t have what you want is that you don’t ask God for it. 3 And even when you do ask, you don’t get it because your whole motive is wrong-you want only what will give you pleasure. 4 You adulterers! Don’t you realize that friendship with this world makes you an enemy of God? I say it again, that if your aim is to enjoy this world, you can’t be a friend of God. 5 What do you think the Scriptures mean when they say that the Holy Spirit, whom God has placed within us, jealously longs for us to be faithful? 6 He gives us more and more strength to stand against such evil desires. As the Scriptures say, “God sets himself against the proud, but he shows favor to the humble.”

Most people want what they want when they want it. When we don’t get what we want, there is conflict. If we are focused only on ourselves and our need, then we will be in constant conflict with the people around us. James is telling us this comes from our sinful nature. It is natural for us to think only of ourselves. Humans will always seek the path of least resistance and seek out what is good for them. But when the Holy Spirit lives within us, we now have the nature of God living in us and making us into His image. As a Christian, we are being made into the likeness of Jesus Christ when we live in obedience to Him. We don’t have victory because we don’t ask God to help us. We don’t surrender our sinful natures to Him. If we ask, God will give us more and more strength to stand against our evil natures. Allow God to change your desires so that they correspond to His will for you. Don’t let your pride direct you into only what pleases you. Allow the Spirit of God within you to lead and direct you into His perfect will. God has placed His Holy Spirit within you and longs for your faithfulness to Him. Go against the natural and step into the supernatural power of God with you!

Have a God Day!
