Return of Christ

January 27, 2016: 11:37 pm: Return of Christ

Jude 17-23
But you, my dear friends, must remember what the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ told you, 18 that in the last times there would be scoffers whose purpose in life is to enjoy themselves in every evil way imaginable. 19 Now they are here, and they are the ones who are creating divisions among you. They live by natural instinct because they do not have God’s Spirit living in them. 20 But you, dear friends, must continue to build your lives on the foundation of your holy faith. And continue to pray as you are directed by the Holy Spirit. 21 Live in such a way that God’s love can bless you as you wait for the eternal life that our Lord Jesus Christ in his mercy is going to give you. 22 Show mercy to those whose faith is wavering. 23 Rescue others by snatching them from the flames of judgment. There are still others to whom you need to show mercy, but be careful that you aren’t contaminated by their sins.
Holy Bible, New Living Translation, (Wheaton, IL: Tyndale House Publishers, Inc.) 1996.

The “last times” or “last days” started when Jesus left this world. It is the period of time between the end of His first coming and the beginning of His second coming. We live in the last days. John is warning us to live close to God because there will be false teachers who would try and pull us away from God. He tells us not to take witnessing lightly for it is a matter of life and death. We are to hate sin, but we must witness to and love the sinner. For we must remember that we were on our way to Hell when Christ saved us. Once we were lost and without the Light of Christ within us. And no one is any better than any other person. We all have sinned and all of us need the saving grace of Christ Jesus. So we have common ground with all around us. Make sure your footing is secure and grounded in the love of God when you reach out to the unsaved. Because it is easy to be pulled into their sin if you are not. Remember, you are a child of the King and need to influence them for Christ and don’t allow them to influence you to sin. Christ is coming soon and He stated He would come like a thief in the night. No warning will be given. The trumpet will sound and the dead in Christ will rise ahead of those who are alive and are in Christ. Christ will be our judge and He will separate the goats from the sheep. Be prepared, be a child of the Living God!

Have a God Day!

Mark 13:14-27
14 “The time will come when you will see the sacrilegious object that causes desecration standing where it should not be–reader, pay attention! “Then those in Judea must flee to the hills. 15 A person outside the house must not go back into the house to pack. 16 A person in the field must not return even to get a coat. 17 How terrible it will be for pregnant women and for mothers nursing their babies in those days. 18 And pray that your flight will not be in winter. 19 For those will be days of greater horror than at any time since God created the world. And it will never happen again. 20 In fact, unless the Lord shortens that time of calamity, the entire human race will be destroyed. But for the sake of his chosen ones he has shortened those days. 21 “And then if anyone tells you, ‘Look, here is the Messiah,’ or, ‘There he is,’ don’t pay any attention. 22 For false messiahs and false prophets will rise up and perform miraculous signs and wonders so as to deceive, if possible, even God’s chosen ones. 23 Watch out! I have warned you! 24 “At that time, after those horrible days end, the sun will be darkened, the moon will not give light, 25 the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers of heaven will be shaken. 26 Then everyone will see the Son of Man arrive on the clouds with great power and glory. 27 And he will send forth his angels to gather together his chosen ones from all over the world–from the farthest ends of the earth and heaven.
Holy Bible, New Living Translation, (Wheaton, IL: Tyndale House Publishers, Inc.) 1996.

The “sacrilegious object that causes desecration” refers to the statue of the Antichrist in the Temple of God and Antichrist setting himself up as if he were God. Christ has given instructions to us about His Second Coming. And He tells us in verse 26 that everyone will see the Son of Man arrive on the clouds. There have been similar sacrilegious objects that have caused desecration throughout history and because of those events; people believe that the judgment Christ said was coming has already happened. In 168 B.C. Antiochus Epiphanes came into the Temple of God and sacrificed a pig to Zeus on the Temple altar. And in A.D. 70 the Romans completely destroyed the Temple and then placed an idol on the site. But do not be deceived because Christ is very clear that this event would take place right before His Second Coming. When He comes again, no one will need to tell you because everyone living in the world at that time will know He has returned. No one will need to be told. We know that Christ has not returned at this time, so His return is yet in our future. And these events in the Temple are in the future because there isn’t a Temple for the Jews to sacrifice. But we must be prepared for His return at any minute because before He judges the world; He will remove His people from the earth. To be ready for His return is to be living Christ to the world around you. Waiting and watching for His Second Coming will keep you living for Him and will continue the process of sanctification in you.

Have a God Day!

Colossians 2:6-15
6 And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to live in obedience to him. 7 Let your roots grow down into him and draw up nourishment from him, so you will grow in faith, strong and vigorous in the truth you were taught. Let your lives overflow with thanksgiving for all he has done. 8 Don’t let anyone lead you astray with empty philosophy and high-sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the evil powers of this world, and not from Christ. 9 For in Christ the fullness of God lives in a human body, 10 and you are complete through your union with Christ. He is the Lord over every ruler and authority in the universe. 11 When you came to Christ, you were circumcised, but not by a physical procedure. It was a spiritual procedure the cutting away of your sinful nature. 12 For you were buried with Christ when you were baptized. And with him you were raised to a new life because you trusted the mighty power of God, who raised Christ from the dead. 13 You were dead because of your sins and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away. Then God made you alive with Christ. He forgave all our sins. 14 He canceled the record that contained the charges against us. He took it and destroyed it by nailing it to Christ’s cross. 15 In this way, God disarmed the evil rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by his victory over them on the cross of Christ.
Holy Bible, New Living Translation, (Wheaton, IL: Tyndale House Publishers, Inc.) 1996.

Receiving Christ as Lord of your life is the beginning of truth in your life. But you must continue to follow His leadership by being rooted, built up and strengthened in your faith. You live for Christ by committing your life and submitting your will to His, seeking to know Him, and by allowing the power of His Holy Spirit to work through you. When we have Christ, we have everything we need for salvation and for right living. This is your reason to give thanks. There is nothing you can be more thankful for than your relationship with Christ Jesus. Nothing else in your life matters outside of Christ. Because your commitment to God is written in your heart, not your body, Christ has set you free from your evil desires. They no longer rule or control you. God removes your old sinful nature and gives you a new nature. Never stop thanking and praising Him for His love and use the righteousness He died to give you by living for Him!.

Have a God Day!

Revelation 20:11-15
11 And I saw a great white throne, and I saw the one who was sitting on it. The earth and sky fled from his presence, but they found no place to hide. 12 I saw the dead, both great and small, standing before God’s throne. And the books were opened, including the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to the things written in the books, according to what they had done. 13 The sea gave up the dead in it, and death and the grave gave up the dead in them. They were all judged according to their deeds. 14 And death and the grave were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death the lake of fire. 15 And anyone whose name was not found recorded in the Book of Life was thrown into the lake of fire.
Holy Bible, New Living Translation, (Wheaton, IL: Tyndale House Publishers, Inc.) 1996.

Genesis tells us that in the Garden of Eden was the Tree of Life and the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. This was before Eve and Adam choose to disobey God and ate the forbidden fruit. So we know that evil already existed. Humans are not the originators of evil. Satan is. He is a created being just like us and like us, God gave him the choice to serve or not to, Satan chose not to. Because Eve and Adam also chose not to obey, so every human born there after is born into sin. But God made a way for us to choose life through the perfect penalty for our sin through Christ Jesus. The end of evil is documented in this passage from Revelation. This is the final judgment and everyone who does not choose life through the Blood of Christ will be here and will be judged by Christ for every sin they ever committed. It is important to know that at this judgment, there will be no one who does not agree with Christ’s judgment. All will know that it is fair and just because all will know that He is God and that He is righteous and full of justice. There will be no one who will say, “This is not fair”! Everyone will know that they had a chance to receive Christ but choose not to. It is difficult to think about friends and loved ones who do not know the Lord and knowing what their fate is, but we can rest assured that the judgment of Jesus Christ will be fair and just and that all will agree with Him. So, do not hesitate to let others know what you belive and share the grace of God with them now while you can.

Have a God Day!

1 Corinthians 1:26-30
26 Remember, dear brothers and sisters, that few of you were wise in the world’s eyes, or powerful, or wealthy when God called you. 27 Instead, God deliberately chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. And he chose those who are powerless to shame those who are powerful. 28 God chose things despised by the world, things counted as nothing at all, and used them to bring to nothing what the world considers important, 29 so that no one can ever boast in the presence of God. 30 God alone made it possible for you to be in Christ Jesus. For our benefit God made Christ to be wisdom itself. He is the one who made us acceptable to God. He made us pure and holy, and he gave himself to purchase our freedom.
Holy Bible, New Living Translation, (Wheaton, IL: Tyndale House Publishers, Inc.) 1996.

Some people like to give emphasis to the prominent who have accepted Christ like the entertainment greats, the leaders in industry, and the prominent in government. But God majors in average people. He is calling the simple minded to have His righteousness. Those considered to be the least will be considered great in His kingdom. He has made His plan of salvation so simple that the “wise” of this world would think it too simple to be true. They spend so much time trying to be “wise” that they become utter fools by missing the only thing that matters in this life, Christ Jesus. That is why no one can boast of being a Christian because it is not anything we are or do, but because of His love for us. Christ is our wisdom and the wisdom of the world. Unfortunately the world will not recognize it until it is too late. One day at the name of Jesus every knee will bow. Bow before Him today because you are grateful for His love for you. It is true wisdom to give to Jesus honor and glory and thanks. It is wisdom from above and not anything from us. So praise Him and worship Him for He alone is God.

Have a God Day!

1 Corinthians 3:10-15
10 According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise master builder I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it. But let each one take heed how he builds on it. 11 For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 Now if anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, 13 each one’s work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one’s work, of what sort it is. 14 If anyone’s work which he has built on it endures, he will receive a reward. 15 If anyone’s work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire.
The Holy Bible, New King James Version, (Nashville, Tennessee: Thomas Nelson, Inc.) 1982.

The Judgment Seat (or Bema Seat) of Christ is for believers giving an account of their lives to Christ. The Judgment Seat of Christ does not determine salvation; that was determined by Christ’s sacrifice on our behalf (1 John 2:2), and our faith in Him (John 3:16). All of our sins are forgiven and we will never be condemned for them (Romans 8:1). We should not look at the Judgment Seat of Christ as God judging our sins, but rather as God rewarding us for our lives. Everything we have done outside of Him will be burned away. Only those things done for Him, by His direction and through His power will stand. When we build on the power of God within us, we build on His foundation. Romans 14:10 states, “…Remember, each of us will stand personally before the judgment seat of God.” The time will come when all of those in Christ will stand before Him and give an account of what we did with the gifts He gave us to do His work. It is not a time to fear, but a time to receive rewards for work done on the earth for Him. As believers we need to be prepared and know His Word. If we are working on knowing Him and knowing His Word, we will hear His voice guiding us into the work He has set before us. It is not about “doing” things for Him; it is about hearing His voice and moving in the direction He guides. Move forward in the direction He has set and when you stand before Him you will hear, “Well done my good and faithful servant.”

Have a God Day!

Luke 21:20-24
20 “And when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then you will know that the time of its destruction has arrived. 21 Then those in Judea must flee to the hills. Let those in Jerusalem escape, and those outside the city should not enter it for shelter. 22 For those will be days of God’s vengeance, and the prophetic words of the Scriptures will be fulfilled. 23 How terrible it will be for pregnant women and for mothers nursing their babies. For there will be great distress in the land and wrath upon this people. 24 They will be brutally killed by the sword or sent away as captives to all the nations of the world. And Jerusalem will be conquered and trampled down by the Gentiles until the age of the Gentiles comes to an end.
Holy Bible, New Living Translation, (Wheaton, IL: Tyndale House Publishers, Inc.) 1996.

Jesus gave us information about the end times and spoke of the Age of the Gentiles. This began with Babylon’s destruction of Jerusalem in 586 B.C. and the first exile of the Jewish people. This was the last time the Jewish people were under their own rule until 1948 when Israel became a nation once again. But the Age of the Gentiles will continue until Jesus Christ is ruling the earth from Jerusalem. Jesus was telling the Jews that they would be dominated by the Gentiles until this time. And we have seen this come to pass, as the Jews have been conquered and trampled down by Gentiles for thousands of years. Jerusalem is surrounded by enemies today and they will continue to try and destroy her until Christ returns. As a believer in Christ we should not fear these times we live in, but have great peace because we know that Christ’s return is near. We rejoice not over all of the trouble in the world, but that God has everything under control. These terrible times of war, hurricanes and strange tides were all predicted by Christ and only show us that His Word is true and that He is in control. Rather than being terrified by what is happening in our world we should confidently wait Christ’s return to bring justice and restoration to the entire world.

Have a God Day!

Zechariah 9:9-10
9 Rejoice greatly, O people of Zion! Shout in triumph, O people of Jerusalem! Look, your king is coming to you. He is righteous and victorious, yet he is humble, riding on a donkey-even on a donkey’s colt. 10 I will remove the battle chariots from Israel and the warhorses from Jerusalem, and I will destroy all the weapons used in battle. Your king will bring peace to the nations. His realm will stretch from sea to sea and from the Euphrates River to the ends of the earth.
Holy Bible, New Living Translation, (Wheaton, IL: Tyndale House Publishers, Inc.) 1996.

When we view two distant mountains, they appear to be close together, even touch each other.  But as we approach them, we can see that they far apart, even separated by a huge valley. This is the situation with many Old Testament prophecies.  Verse 9 was fulfilled when Christ rode into Jerusalem before His crucifixion. It was prophesied 500 years before it happen by Zechariah, but the rest is history for us today. Verse 10 refers to His Second Coming. And it is in the future for those of us today.  Just as this prophecy was fulfilled when Jesus came to the earth the first time, so the prophecies of His second coming are just as certain to come true.  We have the privilege of living in a time when we can see some prophecies have already come to pass.  So we should have faith that God will do what He said He would do.  Just as He came once to save us, He is coming again.  Acts 1:11 states, “They said, ‘Men of Galilee, why are you standing here staring at the sky? Jesus has been taken away from you into heaven. And someday, just as you saw him go, he will return!'” The Bible gives us a clear picture of what the future will hold.  Read and study His Word, know what God has promised.  Then trust Him that His Word is true and His peace will cover you.  Perfect peace will keep your strong as you live for Him.

Have a God Day!

Matthew 25 1-13
1 “Then the kingdom of heaven shall be likened to ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. 2 “Now five of them were wise, and five were foolish. 3 “Those who were foolish took their lamps and took no oil with them, 4 “but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. 5 “But while the bridegroom was delayed, they all slumbered and slept. 6 “And at midnight a cry was heard: ‘Behold, the bridegroom is coming; go out to meet him!’ 7 “Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps. 8 “And the foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’ 9 “But the wise answered, saying, ‘No, lest there should not be enough for us and you; but go rather to those who sell, and buy for yourselves.’ 10 “And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding; and the door was shut. 11 “Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, ‘Lord, Lord, open to us!’ 12 “But he answered and said, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, I do not know you.’ 13 “Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming.”
The Holy Bible, New King James Version, (Nashville, Tennessee: Thomas Nelson, Inc.) 1982.

When Jesus taught this parable, He was already here on earth.  He had already come once.  He was giving instructions on being prepared for His Second Coming. He is teaching us that each person is responsible for their own spiritual condition.  It will not matter how much you know about Jesus, but about how much you lived Him.  If you know Who He is but have never accepted His gift of love through His death on the cross, it will not matter that you believed He was coming again. The first step to salvation is to believe Him, the second step is to live Him.  Mess up that order and you miss Him.  You can’t be a part of Him through works without faith and you can’t be a growing part of Him thorough faith without works.  One shows no faith and the other shows, no obedience.  Because if you believe Him, you will live Him and obey Him.  The 10 virgins all knew Him and knew He was coming, but only 5 were prepared for Him.  The other 5 were not and did not get in.  Our spiritual condition cannot be bought or borrowed at the last minute.  It will do you no good if your father, mother, sister or friend knows and lives Jesus, if you do not yourself. Each of us must be ready for Him when He returns. We must have accepted His free gift of salvation and became a part of His Body.  Then grow to know Who He is through His Word and then go out and show you know Him by living what you know about Him.  Simply knowing is not enough.  Many will be at the door asking to come in, don’t be one of them. Be prepared today by accepting Him as Lord of your life and then join His body and walk in obedience to His Word.

Have a God Day!

Holy Bible, New Living Translation, (Wheaton, IL: Tyndale House Publishers, Inc.) 1996.

Jesus had a lot to say about His Second Coming.  He wanted to warn His disciples about the things that would happen after He left them.  The 13th chapter of Mark is all about the end times.  He starts with the destruction of the Temple and then moves forward to the days we are in now.  The days before the Tribulation or judgment of God against a world who has rejected Christ. But what He is talking about in verse 14 is the middle of the Tribulation when Antichrist sets himself up to be the god of the world.  The Jews realize that they have signed a peace treaty with the Devil, because they thought he was their Messiah.  They come to this knowledge and now have to flee Jerusalem.  Christ warns them it will be difficult because the world will be in great turmoil heading into even greater turmoil. In fact, if God does not cut those days short, all people would die.  But He will and it will only be for 7 years for sake of those who come to know Him as Savior during the Tribulation.  He is saying to all of us today to be warned and do not be fooled because no one will need to tell you that Jesus Christ has returned because all those alive at the time will see Him all over the world.  He will return to a world of darkness because Satan is in control of the entire world.  But there will be those who know Him and He will gather them up to protect them from His judgment on those who served the Antichrist.  Today we are at the time just before the beginning of the Tribulation and Christ warned that there would be wars far and near and famine, but that these were just the beginning of the horror to come when Satan is the king of the world.  So take comfort in knowing that you belong to Him and that you will not have to go through His judgment because you have accepted Him as your Savior. To read more about this go to my Bible study page and download the Bible study I have put together on the book of Revelation.

Have a God Day!
