Matthew 6:7-13
7 “When you pray, don’t babble on and on as people of other religions do. They think their prayers are answered only by repeating their words again and again. 8 Don’t be like them, because your Father knows exactly what you need even before you ask him! 9 Pray like this: Our Father in heaven, may your name be honored. 10 May your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done here on earth, just as it is in heaven. 11 Give us our food for today, 12 and forgive us our sins, just as we have forgiven those who have sinned against us. 13 And don’t let us yield to temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.

Many of us say the Lord’s prayer without thinking about what we are praying.  When we ask for “God’s will to be done on earth as it is in heaven,” what are we really asking?  Many think it is some global change that needs to take place where everything and everyone does exactly what God wants.  But Jesus is speaking into the heart of the believer, He is teaching His disciples and telling them the will of God begins and ends in their hearts.  We only have control over our own thoughts and actions, we can not control what the world does.  So the will of God begins in our own mind and will.  When our spirit is rightly connected to God through salvation, doing His will begins in our souls.  It is surrendering our will, our mind and our emotions to those of God.  Globally the will of God will not be done on earth until Christ is here with us and ruling this world, but in heaven every being willingly does the will of God.  All hearts and minds in heaven are surrendered to the will of God.  This is out of love for Him.  On earth, where the curse of death is still in control, many do not even acknowledge Him as God.  But for those of us who love the Lord can start only with our own will.  By nailing our sinful nature to the cross of Christ and submitting to God, the will of God is done on earth as it is in heaven.  Our prayer should be, “May your will be done in my mind and actions, as it is in the beings of heaven.”  Someday, God’s will will be done by every being on earth.  But until that Day, start with your will and bind your mind, will, and emotions to those of Jesus Christ and make a conscious decision to know and do what Christ would do in all aspects of your life.

Have a God Day!
