1 John 1:5-10
5 This is the message he has given us to announce to you: God is light and there is no darkness in him at all. 6 So we are lying if we say we have fellowship with God but go on living in spiritual darkness. We are not living in the truth. 7 But if we are living in the light of God’s presence, just as Christ is, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from every sin. 8 If we say we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and refusing to accept the truth. 9 But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us and to cleanse us from every wrong. 10 If we claim we have not sinned, we are calling God a liar and showing that his word has no place in our hearts.

The statement “God is light” means that God is perfectly holy and true and that He alone can guide us out of the darkness of our sin.  Light exposes what is true and whatever exists, whether it is good or it is bad.  In the light evil and goodness are clearly distinguished.  Just as darkness can not exist in the presence of light, so sin can not exist in the presence of our holy God.  If we want a relationship with God, we can not approach Him with darkness in us.  It will be exposed and God will not have fellowship with darkness. We must nail our sins to the cross of Christ by believing and receiving the grace Christ died to give us.  To claim that you belong to Christ but then go out and live for your old sinful nature is hypocrisy. Christ will expose and judge such deceit.  Paul tells us to confess our sins and God will cleanse us from every sin. Have fellowship with God and walk in His light by the righteousness Christ died to give you.

Have a God Day!
